White House Easter Egg Roll 2011

I have been trying to get tickets for years. I went as a kid and I wanted my kids to have the chance to experience. I didn't win the lottery, but we were able to go to THE egg roll this year. It happened just by chance. Another parent at daycare works for a Georgia congressman who wasn't using them. She decided she didn't want to go so she asked us. I was SO happy I couldn't wait. I took off work early so we could get there for our 3:30 pm gate opening and our 4:30 egg roll time. We even got to go in through a special entrance since they were congressional tickets, the line was much shorter and we entered right at the egg roll. It was blazing hot and we got there early. We sat at Pershing Park for an hour and decided we would go get in line because there were about 10 families already waiting. So we stood in the sun and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. Harper was exhausted and was fighting all sleep but we finally got her out. Mason was VERY patient. He waited 2 hours without any complaining at all. He just kept asking when it would be our turn. He was so excited to be at Obama's house.

We finally got to go in at 4:30. I was so giddy and excited. I was the only one to set off the security and had to get a second search with the wand. They found out bike pump and the guy looked at me like I was insane. I was like, "The stroller tires always get low...." It was pretty funny. We could hear a marching band playing so loudly and we finally entered to a cheering crowd greeting us. We were at the White House!! Here are the pictures of our awesome day. I hope that the kids get to experience it again one day but if not they can both say they were there.

Mason waiting to go inside of Obama's backyard.

Daddy and Harper waiting.

"I'm hot and don't like waiting."

We're in!!

Mason would not pose with the characters but would go up and touch them. I don't get it but that's why they have the back of his head in all of them.

They have patio furniture.... Do they sit out there and lounge?!

Harper finally went to sleep and I was NOT waking her up for this picture.

Mason in front of the White House. The egg for the egg roll was really a hard boiled egg!

Will and Jada Smith's daughter, Willow Smith. She's a singer.

The White House had a fountain and I guess these ducks wanted to get in on the action.

The Easter Egg Hunt. Again, real eggs!!

Making a bunnycopter. When you throw it, it spins through the air.

Making a paper bag kite.

The White House has it's own bee hive where they make their own honey!

We got our wooden eggs and hiked it home for dinner. What a great memory!
